More players, a new satellite map
A lot more people have been playing PopulationGuessr lately, and I love seeing it! It makes me so happy to know that people are enjoying the game.
That growth also came with a surprise: usage of my previous satellite provider completely blew past its free tier. To keep the site running, I’ve had to switch to a lower-resolution satellite map.
The replacement imagery from EOX is completely free to use, with no per-player or per-tile charge to the site. It is older and less detailed, especially when you zoom in, but more players no longer mean a bigger satellite-map bill. That gives the game much more room to grow and helps me keep it online.

Two new ways to play
Daily Challenge gives everyone the same five shapes each day. Make your population guesses, compare your score on the daily leaderboard, and come back tomorrow for a fresh challenge. The daily reset happens worldwide at 00:00 UTC, with your local reset time shown on the home page.
Population Duel puts two maps side by side. Pick the shape you think contains more people. There are five pairs per game, with similarly sized shapes matched together to make the choice a little trickier!
